Refuge
Beauty …

And natural splendor…

Where cloud dragons roam

and rainbows dance in the sky for hours at a time

A place where Earth~Sea~Sky~Wind soar and mingle with human heart and soul

And merge with Mystery

Graced
Sweeping views of Maui and the deep blue Pacific

Organic gardens and orchards

Bamboo groves

Tropical fish and lotus ponds

Rolling green hills and pastures

An organic farm in the permaculture spirit

of sustainable agriculture and living in harmony with nature

N A GLOBAL SCALE, THE BIG ISLAND is centrally located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, relatively equidistant from Europe, Bangkok, Sidney, and Lima, Peru. The American East and West coasts and Japan are closer. The Sanctuary is an hour north of Kailua-Kona airport “mauka” (upcountry) from the villages of Hawi and Kapa’au in the rural North Kohala Peninsula — a semi remote “island on the island” where the road ends overlooking the spectacular Pololu Valley, the first of seven dramatically beautiful remote valleys. Acclaimed as an eco-tourist mecca, the rural North Kohala Coast offers the longest stretch of pristine undeveloped coastline in all of Hawaii. The birthplace of King Kamehameha, North Kohala is a region rich in cultural heritage and sacred sites.

FamilyNested on the lower slopes of the North Kohala Mountains, The Sanctuary offers sweeping views of Maui’s majestic Haleakela, and the valleys of Kaupo, Kipahulu and Hana. On a clear day the Islands of Molokini, Kahoolawe, Lanai, and Molokai are also visible from the land, as are the whales when they’re breaching in the straits below.

The Sanctuary is an inspiring refuge for:

  • Personal Reflection & Renewal
  • Family Vacations and Reunions
  • Eco-Tourist Holidays
  • Inspired dialogue with friends and colleagues
  • Immersion in Natural Beauty
  • Celebrations of Life, Weddings, etc.

Our unique designs include:

  • The Zen Cottage Refuge with sweeping views and large decks, shoji and sliding glass doors, bamboo floor, elegant writing desk, kitchen, bath, hammocks, and sky chairs
  • The Yurt — A 30' round studio and sanctuary space inspired by Mongolian nomadic architecture
  • weeping Balinese inspired decks with spacious hammocks and swinging sky chairs
  • The Shower Garden
  • The Bath-House and spa-garden
  • Twelve magical and sacred acres of gardens, orchards, fish ponds, rolling pastures, tropical fruits, organic vegetables, fragrant herbs, and night gardens of perfumed jasmine and datura
  • The meditation grove with its own Bodhi Tree — a descendant of the original Bodhi Tree in Bodhgaya where the Buddha realized Full Awakening
