We’ll take a tour of the “mindfulverse,” exploring historical trends in this field dating back into history giving rise to the emergence of mindfulness and contemplative science in education in the Western world that began in the 70s and then to surge as Mindfulness, SEL, and SEE education in the early 21st century.

This session will also explore the profoundly practical educational applications and intriguing implications of mindfulness and contemplative education as it has expanded beyond K-12 education to play inspiring roles in personal, team, and organizational development and transformation, and in modern medicine, higher education, business, government, military, and emergency services, and sports arenas.

Reference to the vital role of mindfulness and contemplative education for helping students of all ages develop wise, compassionate, and sustainable life skills, worldviews, and identities that embody resilience, intuitive intelligence, ethical intelligence and discernment, somatic intelligence, prosocial behavior, and a deeper sense of confidence, self-awareness, self-mastery, meaningful relationships, interbeing, intraconnection, realistic worldviews congruent with the nature of reality, and a healthy, integrative, balanced sense of identity will be skillfully woven into this session.

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
~Albert Camus-French philospher
As we draw near to the elections and the time of year where light begins to wane, join the Artmonks and Joel & Michelle Levey to connect with what matters most and make art from that place. As we acknowledge the deep challenges of this time — ongoing grief, rage, and trauma of the Movement for Black Lives, the pandemic and climate crisis — let’s practice embodiment of our authenticity, resilience, and hope.
In medieval times, the plague set the stage for the Renaissance.
How can we, today, find our inner renaissance? Instead of asking ourselves: What will come next? Let’s pose the question: How will I participate in this revolution? What note do I wish to play in this emerging, improvised symphony? How can I respond creatively and with the full range of my paradoxical emotions at a time when so many are fighting to survive?
This uplifting and dynamic response to disrupted times offers you a rejuvenating weekend experience featuring:
• dharma talks by Joel & Michelle
• guided and silent meditation
• guided creative practices
• spacious time to work on your own creative projects (away from screens)
• daily movement, singing & chant

A Virtual Salon for This Time of Radical Uncertainty:

Conscious Living, Dying, and the Deathless—Together & Alone:

Profoundly Practical Guidance & Insight

“The fact of death is certain.
The time of death is uncertain….
We don’t know which will come first—
our next breath
or our next life….
(Are you ready?)”
~ Tibetan proverb
We have received numerous requests for us to offer a series of teachings on Buddhist practices and wisdom perspectives for Conscious Dying, especially in these pandemic times with its specter of people dying physically distant from loved ones— alone and unprepared—looming over our hearts and minds.
    In response to these requests, we are moved to offer a weekend salon to address this important and timely topic. While this session will draw generously from the deep wisdom of inner science traditions, the humanity and universality of these teachings will also be illuminated with respect to other scientific and wisdom traditions.
    This is such a deep, universal, and profound domain of inquiry and human experience, and there is so much to share, discuss, and practice in this regard. Ordinarily, we would offer these teachings as a weekend workshop or at least a full day salon, yet to ease the online nature of this experience, it will be presented in a two-part format for optimal absorption and integration.  We are requesting everyone who wants to participate to pre-register with us (see below) and plan to attend both sessions.
    Once we receive confirmation of your registration and dana offering, we’ll email you links to join the two sessions – as well as a link to access some inspiring videos and readings to inform your explorations of this profound topic, including our article The Sublime Continuum. At this link you will find our recommendations regarding which elements are most highly recommended to view, read, or consider prior to our live online sessions together.

Creating Cultures of Compassion for Today’s Complex World

Lunchtime Mindfulness Session: 12:15 – 12:45

Workshop: 2-5 pm

Recent advances in many scientific disciplines are illuminating the vital importance and potentials of compassion for individuals and society. While at times elusive and obscured by temporary circumstances, compassion is innate to human beings and can be developed within individuals, communities, organizations, and societies.

This workshop with two pioneers in shaping the global mindfulness and compassion movements offers a wealth of profoundly practical insights, inspiration, skills and strategies for encouraging greater compassion and resilience in our lives and world.  We’ll explore the wisdom of the survival of the kindest and ways we can create communities, organizations, and societies of compassion in VUCA times (of increasing Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity).

Wisdom at Work workshop for leaders in Stockholm

“A human being is part of the whole called by us ‘universe’, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.  Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”~ Albert Einstein

Themes we will likely explore include:

Mindfulness, Courage, and Compassion;

Neuroplasticity, Discipline and Personal Mastery;

Social Cohesion and Social Impact;

Clarifying Meaning, Values, and Purpose;

Creative Adaptation and Altruism;

Empathy, Compassion, and Wisdom.

This meditation retreat offers a rich blend of wisdom principles, practices, and perspectives from various lineages of vipassana/insight meditation, the Bodhisattva tradition of dedication to awakening for the benefit of all beings, and the clear view of the Dzogchen traditions.  Each day of this retreat will offer cycles of sitting, mindful walking, embodied moving meditations, eating meditation, time for deep reflection, time alone and with the community, meditation instruction and teachings, inner-views with the teachers, and immersion in the “holy book of  nature.”  Our focus will be on cultivating a continuity of mindful clear presence in daily life, deep listening, great compassion, healing, awake awareness, and a natural seamless integration of sublime and sacred view into the ordinary activities of our lives in order to live for “the benefit of all”))

This retreat will be suitable for both experienced practitioners as well as novice meditators who have a sincere intention to develop and deepen their meditation practice in order to live more fully as a force for good and a source of inspiration in our complex world.

“In this era, to become a spiritual inquirer without social consciousness is a luxury that we can ill afford, and to be a social activist without a scientific understanding of the inner workings of the mind is the worst folly. Neither approach in isolation has had any significant success.” ~ Vimala Thakar

July 14-16, 2017 ~ SACRED ACTIVISM :: Meditation for Change

A Summer Weekend Retreat at Atlan Center, Columbia Gorge, Washington

In this era, to become a spiritual inquirer without social consciousness is a luxury that we can ill afford, and to be a social activist without a scientific understanding of the inner workings of the mind is the worst folly. Neither approach in isolation has had any significant success. There is no question now that an inquirer will have to make an effort to be socially conscious or that an activist will have to be persuaded of the moral crisis in the human psyche, the significance of being attentive to the inner life. The challenge awaiting us is to go much deeper as human beings, to abandon superficial prejudices and preferences, to expand understanding to a global scale, integrating the totality of living, and to become aware of the wholeness of which we are a manifestation. – Vimala ThakarNew Pioneers Henson copy

Immersed in these strongly polarized times, when many of us are stirred to react to injustice or division, it is important for us to learn ways to pause, listen more deeply, and reflect upon the complex interfusion of inner and outer circumstances, so that we can source the guidance we need to respond to challenges wisely rather than add to the collective confusion.

The goal of sacred, awakened, and wise activism is to connect us to our own essential goodness, and ground ourselves in deeper intelligence, compassion, resilience and resourcefulness,. As our minds-hearts are open and clear, the difficulties we face can reveal their potential to actually bring out the best of our humanity.

This contemplative week-end retreat will provide tools and inspiration to transform our lives and world from the inside out and develop our capacity to embody the change we want to see in our world.

Together we’ll explore the heart of sacred awakened activism; dimensions of mindfulness; living in “right relationship”; deep ecology; sourcing intuitive wisdom; and the Bodhisattva and EcoSattva spirit of courageous creative altruism.

We welcome beginners and seasoned practitioners alike to join us for this special time of renewal, transformation, deep reflection, and connection.

Themes we may explore include:

  • Blending Personal Transformation and Societal TransformationTransformational Meditations
  • Courageous Compassion
  • Sourcing Guidance – Personal and Collective Guidance
  • Insights from Joanna Macy’s “Work That Reconnects”
  • Applying the Five Powers to Antidote the Five Delusions
  • Bodhisattva teachings on blending deep wisdom and compassion to become a force for the good of all beings.
  • Archetypal Inspiration for Tapping Deeper Wisdom, Compassion, and Creative Spirit in Action
  • Insights from Interpersonal Neurobiology on Embodied Wisdom and Wellness
  • Being Ennobled by Our Courage to Embrace Fear, Anger, Overwhelm, and Grief

Mindfulness, Meditation, and Mind Fitness in Daily Life

A wonderful opportunity to develop your daily practice of meditations to brighten 201202_leveygroupyour life and your world with deeper wisdom, wonder, and creative compassion.

“Two of the world’s foremost experts in how our complex lives can be improved through mindfulness and meditation practice. Joel & Michelle will share insights and inspirations from their combined 90 years of practice, from their work with thousands of people around the globe, and from their new book: Mindfulness, Meditation, and Mind Fitness, for promoting change resilience and collective intelligence for healthier minds/bodies/spirits.”

The Leveys introduce us to dozens of mindfulness and meditation techniques, skillfully organized into five categories of practice, making Mindfulness, Meditation, and Mind Fitness a very comprehensive and easy-to-use resource for inner exploration and transformation.

Their teachings and this book offers a treasury of practical wisdom distilled from the Leveys’ intensive study with many of the world’s most respected authorities of the contemplative science and wisdom traditions, and an introduction to the mind-fitness disciplines necessary for personal mastery, wisdom, creativity, compassion, and resilience in times of increasing intensity and accelerating change. Given how many people needlessly suffer from overwhelm, exhaustion, and preventable stress-related illness, the Leveys’ wisdom is needed now more than ever! This book is an inspiration for complete beginners, long-time meditators, and everyone in between, who seek to deepen and expand their practice.

WORKSHOP LEADERS: Dr. Joel and Michelle Levey The Leveys are internationally known, authors and leaders in the mind fitness movement. They are wise elders of the mindfulness movement, who have been teaching meditation and mind fitness for decades – to clients here and abroad, and as diverse as Google, NASA, and the World Bank. The Leveys work with organizations and communities around the globe to inspire people to deepen the wisdom, wonder, compassion, resilience, and creativity they bring to life, work, and relationships amidst the myriad changes, challenges, and opportunities of these turbulent and rapidly shifting times.

Mindful Leadership & Wisdom at Work Masterclass

with Dr Joel and Michelle Levey
Sponsored by: Wild Things in partnership with Meaningful Events

Leveys at Meaning Conference, Brighton UK

Leveys at Meaning Conference, Brighton UK

Dr. Joel and Michelle Levey are arguably the world’s foremost experts in how mindfulness practice can help us navigate the complex and challenging world we find ourselves in.

Over the years they’ve worked with major organisations around the world, including Google, NASA and the World Bank, while their many books have been translated into 10 languages.

This very special masterclass is the first ever event to be hosted by Wild Things, a new business school for the world as it is now, where you’ll have the chance to experience the same clarity and inspiration the Levey’s have brought to hundreds of people worldwide.   At the Meaning conference in Brighton last year, they talked about how their work promotes mindful leadership, change resilience and collective intelligence within government, healthcare, business and even the armed forces – you can see the talk here.

Who should attend?

The masterclass is designed for people have some experience of mindfulness or meditation as an approach within their working life or personal health. This is your invitation to explore the application of these methods more deeply and thoroughly under the Levey’s expert guidance.

Format:

Rather than merely talking about mindfulness, Joel and Michelle will host the masterclass from a position of mindfulness itself, inviting attendees into an environment where they can truly experience its benefits.

What you’ll learn:

• Discover how mindfulness principles can help you increase your capacity for presence, clarity, thoughtfulness and empathy in your relationships.

• Rather than feeling overwhelmed by life’s perceived lack of time and space, learn how to create a greater sense of spaciousness, flow, and choice in your life.

• Gain new perspectives and techniques that can be skillfully applied in alignment with the objectives and purpose of your work and your organisation.

• Experience how shared mindfulness can mobilize our collective intelligence and wisdom, bringing the power of full presence and authenticity to your work and interactions.

“The Leveys are truly inspirational and bring a lifetime’s knowledge and practice of mindfulness techniques. These skills create huge benefits both in everyday life and in business leadership. Highly recommended!”
– Dan Wallman, MD at Dv8 Sussex

“Joel and Michelle created a wonderful warm atmosphere where I could be myself, and which had a great balance between the philosophy of mindfulness, practical activities, and a degree of applicability to my professional work and the organisational world, as well as a refresher on personal practice – and the inspiration to practice more regularly. Highly recommended.”

Day One of this highly experiential Masterclass will focus on learning a dynamic suite of core mindfulness and mind-fitness practices essential for bringing a deeper wisdom, creativity, caring, and resilience to your life, work, and relationships. These foundational skills will help you to:

  • cultivate the power of mindful presence;
  • listen more deeply… to yourself…to others… to your world…
  • focus your attention on what you care most deeply about in your life;
  • expand your access to your most essential human resources;
  • more reliably “source” clearer guidance and intuitive wisdom
  • increase the coherence of your attention, intention, and attitude
  • activate the power of gratitude
  • clarify your priorities in order to truly “live on purpose” and escape the tyranny of mindless habit and compulsive reactivity;
  • enhance your discernment in order live with more wisdom and balance;
  • better monitor and manage your mental, physical, and emotional energy throughout the day in order to better pace yourself and prevent exhaustion, distress, and burnout;
  • care more deeply for yourself and others;
  • tap the power of being more curious, open-minded, and more wise.

As you take these essential skills to heart, you’ll realize their sustained power for transforming and IMG_7373enhancing the quality of your life, work, relationships, health, and capacity for success. In these ways, your own inspiring presence will be more capable of deeply inspiring and assisting others.

Day Two will offer a rare opportunity for a deep, reflective dialogue with Joel and Michelle exploring a wealth of interests and emerging questions brought forward from the group of colleagues and leaders attending this masterclass.  These responsive teachings will focus on delivering practical value and teaching experiential methods, while also offering insights into the central skills and principles necessary to bring a deeper wisdom to our lives, work, and society. We will explore these themes in relationship to how you can:
–      continually increase your capacity to thrive in complex times;
–      expand your access to deeper personal and collective wisdom;
–      increase your personal and organizational resilience;
–      learn to thrive and not just survive in your personal, social, and organizational lives;
–      increase your capacity to inspire others to realize their potentials for all of the above;
–      bring a deeper wisdom to your life, work, and world.

The Leveys’ Wisdom at Work seminar offers a wealth of inspiration for how we can fundamentally change our personal and organizational “operating systems” to embody a deeper understanding, creativity, and heartfelt-caring in our lives, work, and world. Their unique approach works with fundamental views of identity, worldview, core values, personal dedication, and methods distilled from over 45 years of intensive research, practice, and teaching of contemplative science and brain science disciplines within hundreds of leading mainstream organizations. This mature, wisdom-based, integrative approach is for people interested in expanding their capacity for radical transformation for the higher good of all.

Audience

This masterclass is suitable for anyone with a sincere interest in exploring these themes and topics. It will also serve as an inspiring introduction to the work of Joel and Michelle Levey and a “taster” for the more intensive, intimate, and in-depth year-long “Wisdom at Work Learning Expedition” that they will be offering for colleagues and leaders from Sweden and Europe scheduled to begin in April of 2016.  If you’d like more information on this expanded program, please contact the Leveys directly.

Mindful leadership with Dr Joel & Michelle Levey

Joel and Michelle Levey are arguably the world’s foremost experts in how our complex, challenging lives can be improved through mindfulness practice. At Meaning 2014 last November they shared how their work promotes leadership, change resilience and collective intelligence within government, healthcare, business and even the armed forces. You can watch their Meaning 2014 talk here. Their many books have been translated in 10 languages.

This very special Meaning Masterclass will give you the chance to experience the same clarity, confidence and inspiration the Leveys have brought to people at Google, NASA, the World Bank and countless others around the world.

Meaning workshops are a NixonMcInnes thing for better 21st century business, they are produced in partnership with Meaningful Events.

ABOUT US

Joel and Michelle Levey are regarded as pioneers in the global “mindfulness revolution,” “the international compassion movement,” and work to integrate contemplative science and contemporary mind-fitness training in leading organizations in modern times. They were among the very first people to develop and introduce Mindful Leadership, Mind Fitness, and Compassion based programs within mainstream medical, higher educational, organizational, and government/military arenas beginning in the late 70’s
